Ahjumawi Lava Spring State Park

  • "Where the waters come together...." is a translation of the word Ahjumawi, which is also the self-describing word used by the band of Pit River Native Americans who inhabit the area.
High Rock Canyon National Historic Site
  • The Indian trail through High Rock Canyon was first recorded by Captain John Fremont in 1844.
Lava Wilderness Study Area
  • This area offers the chance to explore rugged volcanic formations and learn about the forces that melted and twisted rock into strange shapes and patterns.
Pit River Recreation Area
  • The Pit River is the largest river in northeastern California and drains that section of the state and enters the Sacramento River at Shasta Lake.
  • Fall River Mills, California, adjacent to the river is the Pit River Campground, one of the most unique and aesthetic camping areas around.
Warm Springs Valley
  • Where the Columbia Plateau ends its southward trek in an undulating lava cap called the Devil’s Garden, and where the Warner Mountain Range holds back the western advance of the Great Basin desert land
  • It lies in the heart of Modoc County.
High Rock Canyon National Historic Site
  • Trails used by Native Americans through High Rock Canyon was first followed and recorded by Captain John Fremont and his expedition that included legendary mountain man Kit Carson in 1844.
